Projects awarded to numerous contractors in the construction sector comprising of developments in Infrastructure, Energy and Building sectors had witnessed a steady growth until mid 2008 whilst 2009 and 2010 had borne the brunt of the cautious approach due to the global economic depression. As per the project schedules on 1st July 2010, the year 2011 is expected to witness a growth of over 8% in terms of main contractor awards for the GCC countries combined.
 
In a more realistic and challenging market scenario that is delivering pragmatic solutions with cost effectiveness in the forefront, the GCC region, is still one of the world's largest markets with the construction industry worth over $ 3 trillion with the UAE and Saudi Arabia hosting the largest number of ongoing construction projects. This scenario allows for a lot of room for companies to exploit the potential with a view to gain a foothold of this ever expanding region.

The Hotel and Hospitality sector which is still experiencing an upsurge in projects underway, with new projects being announced totaling cash expenditure of over $ 1.17 bn in the GCC region alone with over 18-20,000 rooms forecasted to be ready in the next 15 months. Active hotel and leisure projects underway and scheduled for completion by 2013 in the GCC rose to $ 7.8 bn, predominantly due to new project announcements in Saudi Arabia and Qatar. With over US$6 billion hotel projects mainly in the UAE, Oman, Qatar & Saudi Arabia due for completion by 2013, Abu Dhabi boasts the largest increase in hotel rooms supply ( 89.4% ) within the region should every one of the 13,405 hotel rooms in its total active pipeline open for consumers.
